The Food an Drug Administration oversees the regulation of genetically modified organisms.

Michael Taylor was the VP of Monsanto from 1998 to 2001, but has a long history of going back and forth between private agribusiness and public service with entities that are supposed to regulate agribusiness.

He is now the Deputy Commissioner for Foods in the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

“Taylor exemplifies the revolving door between the food industry and the government agencies that regulate it.” from this article:  [Monsanto's Man in the Whitehouse] when Taylor was first appointed.
